Meet Maastricht: Gelateria Luna Rossa

I have lived in Maastricht for a couple of months now, but every day I see and learn new things about this new city that I call home! In the recurring Meet Maastricht segment I will share with you the things I encounter and explore as I go along!

To start things off I will introduce you to the most amazing ice cream place I’ve ever been to! And when I say amazing, I mean a-ma-zing!

Yesterday my brother Thomas, his girlfriend Stevie, and I went to get ice cream at Luna Rossa. I’ve heard people say that it’s the best ice cream in Maastricht. I wonder why I never bothered to check it out myself! 😛

From the outside the place doesn’t look that amazing, although it is usually extremely busy. Despite that, I have walked past it numerous times! Note to self: just like in New York City, if it’s busy it’s probably good! 😀

They have over 30 original handmade flavors, most of which I could barely pronounce. Each had a fancy Italian name like fragole, croc d’angelo, bacio al turtufo, and limone cremata. Even though I wasn’t sure what some of them were, they all looked so amazing! So I was sure no matter what I picked I would be okay…

A little Italian lady helped us. I think her thick Italian accent made the experience that much more awesome! 😉

As you can imagine, I had a hard time picking what flavors I wanted. But eventually I figured I could come back anytime and try all the other ones!

I picked limoncello and mojito. I usually like fruity gelato flavors better and I love limoncello liqeuor so I was interested to see what limoncello ice cream would taste like! I figured the mojito went well with the limoncello!

Oh my gosh… words cannot describe!

This really is by far the best gelato I’ve ever had. The limoncello had a distinct limoncello flavor, different from normal lemon gelato, and it had pieces of dried and sugared lemon in it. The mojito wasn’t very minty but more zesty. It had pieces of dried and sugared lime peel in it.

I was in heaven…

You might ask, did she really just write an entire post on gelato? Yes I did! Even though it might not be the healthiest of foods, I believe there is always room for gelato! It’s definitely okay to enjoy a guilty pleasure sometimes, that’s what gives you the strength to keep going! Also, the new blog launching deserved a celebration! That being said, I won’t be going back soon because I know that if I do it might get out of control! After all, there are still 30 more flavors for me to try… 😉

I dare you, nobody could resist gelato this good!

What’s the one guilty pleasure you’ll make an exception for every once in a while?

Jayme’s pizza! And Martin’s potato chips. Though I go out of control with those.

I also really enjoy all the frozen yogurt places that have sprung up on every corner here.

Your blog is helping me convince Brandon that a trip to Europe must be in the works for next year. :)

Oh I’m totally with you on those! Jayme’s pizza is the very best… though I like doritos better, with cheese on them! 😉 But I think that might be taking it a bit too far… 😉

      I don’t think I’ve ever had frozen yoghurt.. 😐

Haha! That’s good, because you should come to Europe! 😛 It’s fun! And we have great gelato! 😉
